  • Can I bring my child or someone with me to my session?
For safety, privacy, and relaxation, I ask that you come alone to your appointment. Exceptions can be made of course—just let me know in advance. I promise to create a peaceful, welcoming space just for you.
  • Are there any health conditions that prevent massage?
Yes—some conditions may require postponing your session: 🚫 Contagious illness (cold, flu, COVID, RSV, skin rash, etc.) 🚫 Fever 🚫 Recent surgery (6-8 weeks, unless cleared by your doctor) 🚫 Open wounds or severe bruising 🚫 Serious cardiovascular conditions Not sure? Just text me before booking and I’ll be happy to advise.
  • What if I’m self-conscious about my body?
You are not alone—and you are welcome here, exactly as you are. Every body is worthy of care. I work respectfully, professionally, and without judgment. You’ll always be draped, supported, and treated with kindness throughout your session.
  • Is your space scent-free or low fragrance?
Yes—my space is low-fragrance by default. I do use minimal essential oils, but never burn incense or use strong perfumes/colognes. If you have specific allergies or sensitivities, just let me know and I’ll happily adjust the space and products to fit your needs.
  • Is your practice LGBTQIA+ and trans-affirming?
Absolutely. My studio is a welcoming, affirming, and safe space for all genders, bodies, and identities. You’ll always be treated with dignity, respect, and care. If you have any concerns or preferences regarding draping, positioning, or language, just say the word—I’ve got you.
  • What does “modality” mean?
A modality is just a fancy word for a massage style or technique. For example: • Swedish = Feels light, relaxing, and the massage flows from area to area. Great entry-point for your first session (*Relaxation does not mean less skill - just a different session goal)• Deep Tissue = Slower pace, targeted pressure for pain relief. This is massage with a therapeutic "goal" in mind, such as pain relief or improved mobility • Cupping = negative pressure (suction) therapy using silicone or glass cups, used to dramatically increase blood flow to a specific area• Prenatal = Side-lying massage (lying on your side, instead of face up/down) is ideal for pregnant clients • Sports = stretch-based, active or recovery-focused work designed to improve athletic performance at every stage of training. There are literally hundreds of massage modalities out there. Welcome to the wonderful world of massage! at does “modality” mean? A modality is just a fancy word for a massage style or technique. • Do you accommodate clients with disabilities or mobility challenges?
My studio is not ADA-accessible, as it is located on the second floor in a building with stairs but no elevator. I understand this may present a limitation to some clients, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you use a mobility device, require assistance getting on or off the table, or have other accessibility needs, just know I’ll do everything I can to make sure your experience is comfortable, supported, and accessible. Another option is in-home massage sessions, often called 'outcall massage.' The therapist brings the massage table, sheets, and all supplies to the client's location (home, office, hotel room, etc.) and performs the massage on site. If this appeals to you, you can find my mobile massage offerings on my booking page, under the "Mobile (in-home) Massage" tab.
  • Do you offer couples massage?
Not at this time. I work one-on-one to provide fully focused, customized care in a private setting. If you’re looking to treat someone else, I recommend purchasing a gift card or booking back-to-back sessions when available.
  • Can I reschedule or cancel my appointment online?
Yes! You can manage all your appointments through your member profile: Reschedule or cancel online with at least 24 hours’ notice. Missed appointments or last-minute cancellations may be subject to a $50 fee. Can I reschedule or cancel my appointment online? Yes! • Do unused sessions roll over?
Yes—if you miss a month, your unused session credit rolls over automatically: Restore & Thrive Plans: 60-day rollover Relief Pro Plan: 90-day rollover Series Packages: No rollover (but longer expiration window) 📌 Credits do expire after the rollover window ends—be sure to book before they expire!
  • Can I book more than one session at a time?
Yes! You’re welcome to book multiple sessions in advance, especially if you’re working through a Series plan or just like to plan ahead. It’s a great way to lock in your ideal time slots. You can book online 24/7 or text me directly for help finding a rhythm that fits your schedule and your wellness goals. Pro Tip: Members with a Series plan or a monthly plan can request recurring appointments, if you LOVE your Saturday morning slot, or need a specific time each month. This is a member-only perk, and you can request your recurring time slot by reaching out to me directly.
  • Do you offer massage partnerships for businesses or organizations?
Do you offer massage partnerships for businesses or organizations? Yes! I offer custom massage solutions for businesses that want to invest in employee wellness. Whether it’s a chiropractic office, salon, barbershop, or a corporate team with a wellness initiative, I’m happy to discuss custom plans that meet your goals and make regular massage care accessible and affordable for your staff.
  • Can my company partner with you to offer discounted massages to employees?
Can my company partner with you to offer discounted massages to employees? Absolutely. I provide discounted, flat-rate massage packages for employees at select partner businesses. These are typically redeemed at my studio, with options for direct billing or individual staff use. It’s a great way to support stress relief, reduce burnout, and promote long-term wellness in your team. If you’re interested in setting something up for your team, just reach out to me directly—I’d love to explore what’s possible together.
  • Do you accept walk-ins?
❌ No. All sessions are by appointment only. Please book online or text me to reserve your spot. You can also quickly check my next available appointment times on my homepage, or by clicking here.
  • How can I book a massage appointment?
You can easily book online through my website’s booking page (preferred). You can also text me at (503) 664-9470 to schedule your appointment. 📌 Texting is preferred over phone calls—I’m often in session and unable to answer. I do not return missed calls without a voicemail due to spam volume—please leave a message if you call.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations require at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged a $50 fee, as your time is reserved just for you.
  • What happens if I’m late to my appointment?
If you arrive late, your session may need to be shortened to avoid overlapping with the next client. I’ll still do everything I can to make the most of the time we have. Please plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early so you can settle in stress-free.
  • What are the benefits of offering massage therapy to my employees or team?
Massage therapy at work has been shown to reduce stress, improve focus, and boost overall productivity. Offering on-site massage [like offering chair massage at a company wellness event] or discounted sessions [giving/raffling gift cards; employee benefit discounts] gives employees a chance to recharge, improving morale and reducing burnout. It’s a simple but effective way to show your team that you value their well-being—and it can be a great addition to your company’s wellness offerings.
  • What if I fall asleep?
That’s totally normal—and often a good sign! If your body feels safe enough to rest deeply, I take that as a compliment. You’re welcome to drift off during your session; I’ll continue working quietly and gently until it’s time to wake you.
  • What should I wear during the massage?
Whatever you’re comfortable with. Most clients undress fully or leave on underwear—either is completely fine. You’ll be professionally draped at all times, and your comfort and safety always come first. Massage is most effective when performed skin-to-skin, but it’s always your choice.
  • Do I have to talk during my massage?
Not at all. You’re welcome to chat, ask questions, or simply relax in silence—whatever helps you feel most at ease. I follow your lead - if you chat, I'll chat; if you remain quiet, I match that. I’ll check in periodically, but beyond that, the session is your space. Quiet is totally okay here.
  • I’m pregnant and hurting—can I come in more than once a month?
Yes! In fact, massage can be an incredibly helpful part of prenatal care. If you’re dealing with low back pain, hip pressure, trouble sleeping, or neck and shoulder tension from nursing, the Recovery or Intensive Series lets you schedule several sessions in a month, whenever your body needs it most. It’s flexible and focused on your comfort. And unlike monthly plans, you don’t have to wait for credits to refresh—you can use your bundle as needed throughout your pregnancy - and beyond. 👉 Check out my pricing plans here
  • Okay… will someone touch my butt?
Okay… will someone touch my butt? This is a fair question—and here’s the short answer: only if it’s appropriate, necessary, and you consent to it. Here’s the longer answer: Yes, hip and glute work is commonly included in massage therapy. These are powerful, load-bearing muscles that affect your lower back, pelvis, posture, and pain patterns. If they’re tight or dysfunctional, you’ll feel it elsewhere—so it’s worth treating them well. I invite you to reframe the “butt” as your hip complex—the largest, strongest joint in your body, and one that rarely gets the focused, therapeutic attention it deserves. With that in mind, here are two things I want you to know: 1. Glute massage is always done using fists, forearms, or elbows—never with an open palm. The touch should always feel clinical and therapeutic—never sexual, never grope-y. Genitals, breasts, and anus are never included in massage at my studio. Period. 2. All hip-area work can be done over the sheet if preferred. Bare skin is not required, and you’re always welcome to wear underwear for added comfort and modesty. You’re always in control of what’s worked on, and how. If something doesn’t feel right, we change it—no questions asked.
  • How often should I get massage?
That depends on your goals. Here’s a general guide: 💡 General wellness: 1× per month 💡 Pain management or chronic tension: 1–2× per week 💡 Stress relief & maintenance: Every 2–4 weeks We can create a plan that fits your body and your budget.
  • What should I do if I feel uncomfortable or don't like something during the massage?
Please speak up—always. Whether it’s pressure, temperature, music, or anything else, I want you to feel completely comfortable, safe and supported. You can request changes at any time, or stop the session entirely if needed. This is your time, and your comfort matters most.
  • Is it normal to feel sore afterward?
Yes—especially after deeper work or your first few sessions. Soreness usually fades within 24–48 hours. 💡 Hydration and light stretching afterward can help ease post-massage soreness.
  • What’s your draping policy?
What’s your draping policy? This is such an important question. You will always be professionally draped during your massage. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and everything else remains securely covered with a sheet or blanket. Draping is required by Oregon law, and it’s one of the ways I create a safe, respectful, and comfortable space for every client—every time. Your modesty, comfort, and feelings of safety are critical and non-negotiable in my practice.
  • What should I expect during my first session?
We’ll start with a brief consultation to discuss your health history, preferences, and treatment goals. Here’s what your session looks like: Check-in: We’ll review any concerns and focus areas. Massage: I’ll step out so you can undress to your comfort level. You’ll be fully draped at all times, with only the area being worked on uncovered. Wrap-up: I’ll offer personalized aftercare tips—hydration, stretches, or suggestions for your next visit. Relax—you’re in good hands, and I’ll guide you through everything.
  • What if I’m dealing with something more intense—like sciatica or frozen shoulder?
If you’re facing an acute issue like sciatica, frozen shoulder, or a stubborn tension headache, you’ll likely need more than one session to see lasting relief. That’s where my Series Plans come in. These prepaid bundles (4 or 8 sessions) allow you to schedule treatments as frequently as needed—even multiple times a week—without waiting for a monthly membership credit to renew. For example: if you’re experiencing a sciatica flare-up, spacing four sessions 4–5 days apart can help calm the nerve irritation, reduce inflammation, and get you back to moving with less pain. 👉 Check out my pricing plans here
  • I get tension headaches or tech neck flare-ups—should I book more often?
Absolutely. For recurring issues like tension headaches or tech neck, spacing sessions closer together (especially during a flare-up) can help reset the pattern and bring faster relief. My Series plans are designed for just that. Book 1-3 sessions during high-stress weeks, then space them out weekly as your body settles. You'll get the relief and care you need without monthly limits getting in the way.
  • Do you work with trauma survivors?
Yes. While I’m not a mental health provider, I am trauma-aware and trained in safe, consent-driven touch. I approach every session with care, presence, and respect for your boundaries. If you have specific concerns or triggers, feel free to share them—if it feels beneficial to you. You’ll never be asked to explain, only invited to feel safe.
  • What types of massage do you offer?
I offer personalized, goal-focused massage therapy and bodywork to relieve pain, reduce stress, and support long-term wellness. Available sessions include: • Deep Tissue • Dynamic Cupping • Swedish (Relaxation) • Hot Stone • Sports Massage • Prenatal Massage 💆 I also offer targeted sessions for concerns like carpal tunnel, sciatica, and tension headaches. You can find full details and book online on my Services page.
  • Is tipping expected?
Tips are never expected and never required. If you feel moved to leave one, it’s received with gratitude—but the best “tip” is rebooking, referring a friend, or simply showing up for your next session. Your presence and trust are what matter most.
  • Do you accept insurance? Can I pay using insurance benefits?
I do not currently accept insurance benefits. If you found my info in your in-network provider list, allow me to explain: While David Holden LMT is my private practice, I am also an in-network provider at Powell Valley Wellness, a chiropractic and wellness clinic located at 4253 SE 182nd Ave., Gresham. (We're all working multiple gigs these days, yeah?!) To ensure your appointments are in-network and covered by your insurance, you must schedule directly with Powell Valley Wellness (links to Powell Valley Wellness homepage). Thank you for your understanding and support!

  • Do you accept HSA or FSA cards?

  • I Have a Plan - What's the Cancellation Policy?
📝 Plan & Cancellation Policy All monthly Plans (90-for-90, Restore, Thrive, and Relief Pro) are billed month-to-month with no long-term commitment. You can change or cancel your plan at any time—no penalties, no pressure. 📌 1 Plan per client. Plans are intended to support consistent care, not sporadic discounts. Signing up just to cancel and rejoin for the discount isn’t in the spirit of membership—and may result in plan restrictions. Recovery and Intensive Series are one-time, prepaid packages and do not auto-renew. Once your series is complete, you’ll need to purchase a new one or upgrade to a monthly Plan to continue receiving member benefits. ❗What Happens When You Cancel? Monthly Plan Members: If you cancel your plan, any unused session credits must be used within 30 days of your cancellation date. After 30 days, remaining credits will expire and cannot be reactivated. Want to take a break? Instead of canceling, consider pausing (suspending) your membership for up to 60 days. This holds your account and benefits while giving you a breather.
  • Can I Pause or Suspend My Membership If I Need A Break?
Yes. If you’re facing health issues, traveling, or simply need a pause in care, you can temporarily suspend your membership instead of canceling it. Here’s how suspension works: You may suspend your membership up to 2 times within a 12-month period. Each suspension can last 1–3 months. Your membership must be active for at least 30 days before another suspension can be requested. During a suspension: Billing pauses. Any unused session credits remain active and can still be used. You retain your plan pricing and benefits once your plan resumes. Your plan will automatically resume at the end of your selected suspension period unless you request otherwise. 📌 Note: If you choose to cancel instead of suspend, any unused massage credits must be used within 30 days of cancellation before they expire.
